Matilda Day

How to host a Matilda Day mini-fundraiser
Step 1: Choose Your Local Shelter
Pick a dog shelter or rescue in your community that you love.
How to find one:
-
Search "[your city] dog shelter" or "[your city] dog rescue"
-
Look for a nonprofit with an online donation page
-
Call and confirm they can accept online donations or that they have a fundraising platform
Step 2: Set a Goal
Set a fundraising goal of $100 or more, whatever feels right for you.
Step 3: Decide How You'll Raise It
Option A: Direct Donation
-
Give directly to your chosen shelter's website or in person
-
Use their donation link and share it with friends and family
Option B: Small Online Fundraiser
-
Create a Facebook or Instagram fundraiser for your local shelter, using the content I’m sharing here.
-
Use a platform like GoFundMe, Fundly, or your shelter's own fundraising tool
-
Invite friends to contribute
Option C: Host a Mini-Event
-
Organize a coffee date, dog walk, dinner, or some other gathering
-
Ask participants to donate in Matilda's honor
Step 4: Share Matilda's Story
Use the messaging templates below to tell your friends about Matilda Day. It helps to make it personal, of course, and why you love dogs, maybe especially senior dogs.
Step 5: Report Your Impact
When you've donated or raised whatever amount, please fill out this simple form so we can celebrate together.
Include:
-
Your name (optional)
-
Your city/state
-
The shelter name and location
-
Amount raised
-
Any photos or stories you'd like to share
On January 17 and beyond, I'll share: "Together, Matilda's friends in [X] states raised $[total] for [X] shelters in honor of senior dogs."

On January 17, I am celebrating Matilda Day in honor of Matilda, an 18-year-old rescue dog who lived a life full of adventure and love. Her dingo stardust touched thousands of hearts around the world.
In her honor, I am raising $[your amount] for [Your Local Shelter Name] to help senior dogs who are still waiting for their person. Senior shelter dogs are often overlooked though they have so much love to give.
The official Austin City Proclamation named January 17 "Matilda Day," but Matilda's friends everywhere can join by supporting their own local shelter. Will you help me give senior dogs a day of celebration and care?

Every $5 helps. Every bit counts. Thank you.

Subject: Join Me for Matilda Day—Honoring a Senior Dog
Hi [Friend's Name],
I am writing to ask if you might consider celebrating Matilda Day with me this year, an official city holiday in Austin, Texas that honors senior shelter dogs.
Matilda was a beloved 18-year-old rescue dog who passed away on January 17, 2023. She traveled the world with my friend, Amanda, and spread a lot of love and joy. When she died, thousands of people around the world donated to help senior dogs at Austin Pets Alive!
This year, Matilda’s global family is honoring her by giving to shelters everywhere. I have chosen [Your Local Shelter Name] and I’m raising $[your amount] to help senior dogs who are waiting for their forever homes.
Senior dogs in shelters have only a 25% adoption rate. They're often overlooked, even though they have so much love to give. Will you join me in honoring Matilda's legacy by giving to [Your Local Shelter Name]?
You can donate here: [shelter donation link]
Even $5 helps. Every gift goes directly to caring for a senior pup who deserves a second chance.
Thank you! You can learn more about Matilda Day here: [link to your social media or website]
